CAAS testified in support of Somerville's Transfer Fee Home Rule Petition at the State House on September 9, 2025. The transfer fee would impose a small surcharge on large real estate transactions (generally those over $1 million, with owner-occupied properties exempted), with the funds raised to be used for the creation and preservation of affordable housing. Many other cities and towns across the state were also there to advocate for state-wide enabling legislation that would allow each municipality to decide whether or not to impose a transfer fee, and to tailor that fee to local needs.
