Rooted in Somerville is a 12-month pilot fundraising campaign powered by volunteers and driven by neighbors who believe housing is a human right. By monitoring real estate sales and reaching out directly to buyers and sellers, we raise funds to support resistance against displacement and support the creation of permanently affordable homes for working families and neighbors who make Somerville a diverse and culturally vibrant community.

Proceeds are split evenly between two partner organizations: the Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) and the Somerville Community Land Trust (SCLT). CAAS organizes tenants, fights displacement, and connects families to the services they need. SCLT purchases property, shields it from speculation, and turns it into permanently affordable, community-owned homes for working families. Together, your donation builds both the organizing power and the housing capacity needed to keep Somerville affordable for the people who make it what it is.

It works. When a 6-unit building at 12 Pleasant Avenue came up for sale, residents faced the real possibility of losing their homes. CAAS supported tenants as they organized to resist displacement, opening the door for SCLT to purchase the building. Everyone stayed, rents were stabilized, and the building is being renovated so residents can purchase their own homes at affordable prices and put down lasting roots in Somerville. That's what your donation makes possible.

If you're here because you recently bought or sold property in Somerville, you already understand what's at stake. Real estate transactions shape who gets to stay and who gets pushed out. We're asking you to consider giving back a small fraction — even 0.5% of the purchase price makes a meaningful difference.

Every dollar counts. No amount is too small, and 100% of proceeds go directly toward keeping working families rooted here

Help us make sure Somerville stays home for everyone.
