Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP)
The Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) provides advocacy and crisis case management to low income Somerville residents at risk of homelessness.
HPP assists Somerville residents who are facing eviction from their homes. Advocates provide information, assist clients in preparing for court, and pursue resources to help clients stay in their homes.
Answer and Discovery Clinic
HPP can assist any Somerville resident, regardless of income, fill out Answer and Discovery pleadings prior to their eviction court date. Please call us if you have received a summons from court for an eviction.
HPP assists Somerville residents who are at imminent risk of having their utilities (heat, gas, electric, phone) shut off or have already experienced a shut-off. Advocates can help residents restore and maintain their utilities and get on track to reduce their utilities bills.
HPP assists Somerville residents who have recently had their public benefits terminated or reduced. HPP helps advocate with agencies such as the Department of Transitional Assistance to reinstate and maximize benefits. In some situations, HPP can help appeal denials or apply for benefits.
HPP assists Somerville residents assert their rights as tenants to reside in a safe and healthy home through advocacy with landlords and city agencies. HPP also assists Somerville residents in accessing subsidized and affordable housing.
